IGP FLNG & FSRU Solution, South Africa

Sunbird Energy Ltd is planning to develop the Ibhubesi gas field project (IGP), located off the west coast of South Africa, based on proposed FLNG & FSRU conceptual plan. The LNG transferring solution is consisted of an FLNG production plant on the gas field, LNG shuttle vessels for transporting LNG from gas field to Saldanha bay by 300 km, an FSRU facility for regasifing LNG to gas, and 115-km pipelines onshore for transporting natural gas to the power plant.

Compared with the previous FPSO & Seabed Pipeline solution, FLNG features a systematic integration of multi-disciplinary engineering efforts, which merits great attention from technical perspective from all project stakeholders.

HalcrowSea undertook the conceptual design of FLNG, and evaluated LNG transferring solution in terms of feasibility and cons/pros over traditional land-based terminal. FLNG concept study, that is composed of a FLNG vessel of about 75,000 DWT, SPM mooring system with turret and flexible riser, and LNG tandem offloading system, has been proposed. The converted FLNG solution using twin LNGCs integration concept was considered as the first choice in this project. FLNG concept design, including topside equipment layout, SPM mooring and riser facility, topside process system description, major equipment list and weight list, FLNG procurement analysis and cost estimate, etc. had been completed in Feb. 2016.
